The Mentoring Project is looking for a feature to capture registrations for:

  1. IETF Guides Participants (formerly mentees)

  2. IETF Guides Resource persons (formerly mentors)

  3. Quick Connection mentees

  4. Quick Connection mentors

These registrations happen every IETF meeting (even though we might want to re-use Resource persons and mentors).

What we need here is a meeting specific URL where people can go to to sign up for the different roles described above. For the sign up process we need several text fields, that end up in a simple database that Wes and I can access and use.*

Examples of fields that we currently use (FYI):

  1. IETF Guides Participants (formerly mentees)
    a. given name
    b. surname
    c. email address
    d. organization or company affiliation
    e. country of residence
    f. Are you registered to attend the IETF meeting? Note that the IETF Guides program is currently only available to those attending the face-to-face meeting in person. Please feer free to contact the regional guides (https://ietf.org/about/participate/guides/) for contacts in our area
    (yes)
    g. What is your preferred conversational language, if not English?
(Cantonese, Mandarin, Hindi, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Other)
    h. How many IETF meetings have you attended in person

    i. What technical technical topic brought you to the IETF?
    j. Which IETF area(s) most interest you? (see https://datatracker.ietf.org/area/ for information on active IETF areas)
(ART, INT, OPS, RTG, SEC, TSG, I don't know yet)
    k. Which working groups (wgs) are you most interested in? (see https://www.ietf.org/how/wgs/ for more info)
    l. If you have a gender preference for you guide, please indicate below
( I would prefer to work with a female guide, I would prefer to work with a male guide, I don't have a preference)
    m. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

    (<5 years, 5-10 years, >10 years)
    h. are you willing to work with more than one program participant?
    (yes, no, maybe)
    i. are you willing to give a general introduction of the IETF to a newcomer program participant?
    (yes, no, maybe)
    j. are you willing to be a guide at upcoming meetings if needed?

    h. What technical technical topic brought you to the IETF?
    i. Which working groups (wgs) are you most interested in? (see https://www.ietf.org/how/wgs/ for more info)

  4. Quick Connection mentors

    h. are you willing to be a Quick Connection mentor at upcoming meetings if needed?

Another feature which might be part of this, but maybe separate, is the ability to run evaluation surveys to assess the quality of tutorials, presentations, mentoring, etc.

  • Wes and I were thinking of a kind of semi-automatic match making between the mentors/mentees and participants/resource persons, but I don't think this should go in this feature to keep this modular.

This really isn't a datatracker ticket, but a general request to the tools team. It's being explored through volunteer effort - an early version is expected to be useable for Prague.
